A common link between most of the beekeepers I’ve been writing about is that they undertook their training with the Manchester & District Beekeepers Association (MDBKA for short). Part of the British Beekeepers Association, the organisation’s main purpose is to promote the art of beekeeping.
The association’s home since 2004 is Dower House, located in Heaton Park near the reservoir. Inside are an observation hive, displays about bees and beekeeping, with an apiary located at the back of the building. Here you’ll find a wealth of different hive designs, filled with bees going about their business. Dower House is also the location for the association’s training courses run for beginners, bee clinics and lectures for members.
If you’d like to visit Dower House, it’s open every Sunday at the following hours:
Summer: Open at 12:00 close at 16:00
Winter: Open at 12:00 close at 15:00
For more information, you can also visit the association’s website, where you can find out all about upcoming beekeeping courses if you fancy having a go yourself.
