Located next to the Rochdale Canal, Eversheds Sutherland’s Manchester office is home to a small garden and beehive up on its roof. Started in 2009 by Steven McLoughlin, who has been responsible for the project ever since, the original inspiration was  the company’s Central London office, which has won a number of awards for its rooftop garden.

Beginning with a single beehive, the project has expanded over years. In the same year, a bird-feeder was placed outside, attracting greenfinches and goldfinches to the roof. Later, a vegetable patch was cultivated, with the resulting produce being passed along to the company cafeteria. Other additions include a bug hotel and a wildflower garden, featuring Foxgloves and California Lilac. In recognition of the work undertaken, the garden has received a Bio Diversity Hotspot award from Manchester City Council in 2011.
